Review & Description
A story about a young amateur detective who discovers toxic waste dumpers are spoiling her community’s mountain bike trail, which threatens to cancel the annual mountain bike race unless she can solve the case fast. Written for readers aged 9-12.
“Abby Allen Amateur Detective: The Case Of The Mountain Bike Trail Dumper,” contains approximately 12,000 words, or about 40 pages of standard text, and a glossary of mountain bike terms used in the book. This story features an active 12 year girl as amateur detective and mountain bike racer, Abby Allen.
Excerpt:
Diesel smoke belched from the truck’s exhaust as it lumbered up the narrow trail overlooking the small town below. Tufts of prairie grass lined the trail and squat pine trees jutted from crags in the hillside. A crow cawed in protest to the intruding vehicle, and soared ahead to sound the alarm.
The truck tires clawed the soft sand, gouging the trail as it lurched upward, crested the steep climb, and wound its way into a narrow canyon, walled by sandstone cliffs.
The heavyset driver shifted his eyes from side to side, gulped the last bit of a fountain soda, and slammed the truck into second gear. Sweat dripped from his forehead as he stole a glance into the truck mirrors.
Hikers and mountain bikers used this trail, and the last thing he needed was a witness.
